How do you get a 7 yr old boy do do school work?

My son is 7 and is now in home school. We were having difficulties with at school and as a last resort, we put him in home school. W are having the same problems now as he did in school. He is so smart but acts like he can’t do the most simple things. Most of the time we will go over something with him and he does just fine. But then he will have the same stuff the next day and acts like he never learned it. We know that most of the time he is just acting like he can’t do it. What to do?

First of i think the kid needs an ***kicking that might seriously help him concentrate hahaha. Just teasing naw i think wat would work is to set up a reward system. such as for going outside and playing video games or getting ice cream for desert or even getting a new toy or video game. the simplest awards can help a kid focus. i have gone through this with my siblings so i think that would help you as it helped me. if anything breaking down the school work into smaller sections will help.

yeah a beating and/or the threat of a beating always worked on me….

..you need to establish discipline and some sort of respect now or else by the time he’s 12 he’ll be out of control.

maybe if you try to encourage him he might try a little harder!!!!i hope everything works out with ur son!!!!

I firmly believe in the reward system. If he has something that he is really going to love at the end of the week, and you keep reminding him that he will get that reward if he does his work, without you having to remind him every day that he knows how to do this work, then he will probably start doing the work. He is probably bored with it. He needs some excitement in it. I homeschooled for a year and I hated it because HE hated it. I had to do it for health reasons and I have never been so happy to get him around other kids and a teacher that knew how to handle him. Just try rewarding him though and ask him what he would like his reward to be. Good luck.

Check who he is hanging out with, and what he’s watching media-wise.

Now, if he dosen’t do homework, he dosen’t get his toys, or if your harsh like that, no supper.

I used to play dumb & tell my kids , wow I never learned that in school. Can you teach me how to do that kind of work. Let him be the teacher to you & it will build up his self esteem.Kids love showing off how smart they are.Keep praising him about how smart he is .

  8. That Gay Guy for Da Ben Dan Says:

Tell him that he has no privileges until his homework is DONE and it is done well.

No school work equals no TV, music, computer, games.

  10. drshorty Says:

Have your child evaluated by a psychologist or psychiatrist who works with children. Sometimes learning disabilities or psychological problems can prevent very smart people from functioning as they would like. It’s important to take care of this now before your son starts to believe that he’s dumb.

Maybe you should contact the school where you do your home schooling through and see if they can test him for special ed.

If special ed is not the case, maybe you need to revoke all privileges so he has no choice but to do his work.
